Our Story

Renato’s is a group of Italian restaurants in Amsterdam and Nijmegen, born out of a passion for Italian cuisine and true hospitality. It all started in 2006, when Kim and Freek met at the Hotelschool The Hague. During their many trips to Italy, they fell in love with the wines of Valpolicella, the cured meats of Tuscany, the Parmigiano Reggiano from Emilia Romagna, and of course, authentic Italian pizza.

In 2013, everything came together. Renato Arduini, born and raised in Italy, had been running his pizzeria in Amsterdam with his wife Rina for years. When he decided to hand over the business, Kim and Freek took the opportunity. On November 1st, 2013, Renato’s Pizzeria in De Pijp officially became theirs. From the very first day, locals lined up outside for Italian pizza served in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

The story didn’t stop there. In 2015 they opened Renato’s Osteria – a restaurant where homemade pasta, wines and antipasti took center stage. Soon after, the Osteria moved to a larger location on Van der Helstplein, with a spacious terrace and two floors. Around the same time, they founded Renato’s Laboratorio, the production kitchen where fresh pasta and pizza are made daily and new recipes are developed.

Renato’s quickly became a household name in the city. With a stand in the Foodhallen Amsterdam West, and later in the Foodhallen The Hague, they brought Italian flavors to an even wider audience. In 2020, they opened Renato’s Nijmegen, a vibrant Italian restaurant with a sunny terrace. And in 2023 came Renato’s Spaarndammerbuurt in Amsterdam West – a modern pizzeria with a large terrace in one of the city’s most lively neighborhoods.

Alongside the Renato’s restaurants, Kim and Freek also manage other successful concepts. Faam Pizzeria in Amsterdam Oud-West is known for its creative pizzas and buzzing atmosphere. De Pizzakamer in De Pijp has become a true neighborhood favorite, offering authentic Italian pizza in an intimate setting. And in Bloemendaal aan Zee they run Poort Beach, a seaside hotel with stylish apartments and stunning sea views – the perfect place for a coastal getaway.

Today, the group counts several restaurants and more than ninety employees. Chefs and pizzaioli from all over Italy bring the Italian kitchen to life in the Netherlands every day: from fresh pasta and authentic Italian pizza to wines from Piemonte and cured meats from Tuscany.

Whether you’re here for a quick pizza, a long dinner with friends and family, or a weekend by the sea: Renato’s and its sister concepts bring Italy – and la dolce vita – to the Netherlands.
